Brenntag Guatemala (“Brenntag”), an international chemical producer and importer company offering more than 200 chemical products and leader in its field in Central America, has been recently certified under ISO 14001 and OHSAS norms as a result of its good procedures, standards and environmental and industrial labor-safety compliance.

The Brenntag team, spearheaded by Roberto Lizama, Quality, Safety and Environmental Regional Chief and Ana Estévez, CASA Supervisor in Guatemala, jointly with Consortium – Guatemala´s environmental and labor/employment counsel, worked extensively for more than 4 months analyzing company procedures and standards, reviewing permits, visiting Brenntag´s site facilities in Guatemala City and Santo Tomás de Castilla Port and implementing recommendations for legal compliance. As a result of this great effort, that included diverse technical and legal issues, such team prepared a risk matrix and complete detailed lists of all applicable environmental and labor-safety international treaties, statutes, rules and norms relevant to the company to evidence and monitor Brenntag´s environmental and labor-safety legal compliance.

As stated by Mr. Alejandro Cofiño Rodríguez: “Environmentally speaking, and also for labor-safety, after advising a chemical company during a certification process under international norms, both areas being heavily regulated, everything is downhill from here! Brenntag now has complete, accurate, user-friendly and easy-access legal tools to guarantee its environmental and labor-safety  compliance and future monitoring”.

Brenntag is now only the second company in Guatemala with the triple certification ISO 9001:2000 - ISO 14001:2004 - OHSAS 18001:2007, and the first company of the Brenntag Group in the region to obtain the environmental and labor-safety certifications.
