Consortium Central America Attorneys, through its offices in Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Guatemala advised Citigroup in the recent acquisition of Grupo Financiero Uno (“GFU”) in the Central American region. With the acquisition of GFU, one of the largest credit card issuers in Central America, Citigroup will strengthen its presence in Latin America with US$2.1 Billion in assets which will increase its credit card business in the region and growth in consumer finance and retail banking. The transaction is still subject to regulatory approvals in the United States and each of the five Central American countries. Grupo Financiero Uno, to which Banco Uno and Aval Card belongs, has at the moment presence in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panamá. Citigroup on the other hand, is a leading global financial institution that operates in more than 24 Latin American countries. Consortium - Rodriguez, Archila, Castellanos, Solares & Aguilar in Guatemala, Consortium - Taboada & Asociados in Nicaragua, and Consortium - Laclé & Gutierrez in Costa Rica were part of the team of multidisciplinary and international lawyers who participated in this important transaction made in Central America. |
