Consortium Central America Attorneys, through its office in Honduras advised General Electric Finance (GE Finance) in the recent acquisition of Banco Mercantil, S.A (“Bamer”) in Honduras. With the acquisition of Bamer, the fourth largest bank in Honduras, GE Finance will strengthen its presence in the country, currently through its participation in Banco de la América Central (BAC-Credomatic), and the Central American region and increase its growth in consumer finance and retail banking. Filings for regulatory approvals in Honduras of the transaction have already been submitted. Bamer, one of Hondura´s newly traditional banks and in operation since 1980, has at the moment a solid presence in Honduras with a highly respectable record. GE on the other hand, is a leading global financial institution that operates worldwide and in Latin America.
