Consortium Centro America Abogados, through its office in Honduras, advised Banco de América Central Honduras (“BAC”) and General Electric Finance (GE Finance) in the recent merger with Banco Mercantil, S.A (“Bamer”) in Honduras to create the largest bank in the country in assets and loan portfolio.
After having advised in the acquisition of Bamer, the fourth largest bank in Honduras, Consortium’s office in Honduras obtained all corporate, banking and competition approvals for the merger with Banco de América Central Honduras , marking a historic process lasting only six months. With the merger, GE Finance consolidates its presence in the country as the predominant bank in consumer finance and retail banking. The merged bank, BAC-Bamer, has become the largest in Honduras reaffirming its highly respectable record.
Consortium – J.R Paz & Asociados in Honduras with a team of four lawyers, including partners José Ramón Paz, Leonidas Padilla and José Rafael Rivera Ferrari, participated in this historic banking merger as the largest to date in Honduras, involving a capitalization of US$ 70 million plus, in coordination with in-house counsels of Banco de América Central (BAC) in Nicaragua, Miami and Costa Rica.
