Consortium Centro América Abogados through its offices in Nicaragua, Consortium-Taboada & Asociados, imparted a seminar on “The Administrative Oral Labor Procedure in Nicaragua”, whose primary objective was to offer all participants the knowledge on the new procedure that the Ministry of Work put in to use from January 12, 2009.
The expositor, Bertha Xiomara Ortega, Senior Associate of the firm and Master in Business Law; is an expert in Enterprise Legal Consultancy and in Labor Law. She has ample experience in teaching in different universities of the country; she has also been invited professor in Seminars of Labor Law at INCAE Business School. The seminar was directed to general managers, legal advisors, and generally to employers, who must follow the new procedure to obtain the authorization as much for the cancellation of the individual contract of work by just cause, as for the collective suspension of contracts and closing of companies. Bertha Xiomara Ortega developed in her exposition the basic concepts of the Procedure so that the participants could acquire the essence of it. This procedure is designed so that it is performed in two hearings where the employer and employee must be present. The past procedure that was applied until January 11th of this year was a procedure totally written, very similar to the one used for the resolution of labor conflicts, which entailed excessively slow proceedings with the consequent affectation of all the involved parts. The seminar was imparted at the Convention Center of the Crowne Plaza Hotel located in the Nicaraguan capital and created a great interest in the public to whom it was directed, exceeding the attendance expectations. Also, when finalizing the event, the participants had the opportunity to evaluate to the expositor, the evaluation showed: Effectiveness in communication, dominion of the subject and interest of the same. It is thus, as once again, the expertise Consortium is demonstrated not only in the practice of law but also as educators of the profession.
